The AM Show: From VP to Comedy Headliner—The Bold Journey of Maryann Maisano

Maryann Maisano, once a high-ranking Vice President in the banking industry, made a daring leap from corporate success to the world of comedy and entertainment. Now the headliner and producer of The Italian Chicks Comedy & Variety Show, Maryann’s life story is one of reinvention, passion, and the enduring influence of humor and heritage.

A Performer at Heart

For Maryann, the seeds of performance were planted early. Growing up in a lively Italian household, Sundays were a spectacle of family, food, and chaos – like a scene from a boisterous Italian dinner theater. Amidst the clatter of plates and the aroma of cannolis, young Maryann found her stage. At just five years old, she climbed onto a dining room chair and belted out a tune, declaring her dreams to the world: she wanted to be a performer.

That dream, however, was both a blessing and a burden. While her talent was evident, societal and familial expectations loomed large. Her practical-minded Italian father’s question echoed in her mind: “Marianna! When are you gonna get a real job?”

A Detour Into Banking

Though she pursued performance professionally for many years, doubts about the sustainability of her career began to creep in. The thought of being 65, clad in a sequined gown, singing in the Poconos, pushed her to consider a more stable path. That path led to the banking world, where Maryann discovered unexpected success. She rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a Vice President of a major financial institution, earning accolades as a sales coach and expert in marketing and branding.

Yet, even as she thrived in her “real job,” the performer in her never faded. Maryann continued multitasking her career and passion, keeping one foot in each world.

The Leap of Faith

In 2006, Maryann reached a turning point. After delivering what would be her final seminar on pursuing one’s passions, she decided to take her own advice. Tired of the corporate “suits” and longing to embrace her creative side, she left her six-figure salary behind to follow her heart. Treating herself as a business plan, Maryann devised a three-phase strategy to reinvent her career:

  1. Create a CD of Original Compositions: Maryann wrote and recorded her debut album, showcasing her lyrical and evocative songwriting skills. Her music, described as a “woven piece of velvet, rich in abstract hues of red,” caught the attention of actor Danny Aiello, who recorded her song City of Light for his Grammy-nominated album Bridges.
  2. Launch The Italian Chicks Comedy & Variety Show: Combining comedy, music, and a celebration of Italian-American culture, Maryann created an all-female ensemble that brought laughter and tradition to audiences nationwide.
  3. Write a One-Woman Show: Titled The Agita Monologues, her one-woman show delves into the nuances of Italian heritage, humor, and identity.

Humor and Heritage: The Heart of Her Success

Today, Maryann Maisano stands as a testament to the power of reinvention. Through The Italian Chicks Comedy & Variety Show, she has built a platform that not only entertains, but also preserves and honors the rich traditions of Italian-American culture. Her journey from a VP in banking to a headliner in comedy is a story of courage, creativity, and staying true to one’s roots.

Maryann’s ability to weave humor and heritage into her work has resonated with audiences far and wide. Whether through her music, comedy, or storytelling, she continues to inspire others to embrace their passions and rewrite their narratives – proving that it’s never too late to follow your dreams.
