KINGS tells the story of the nation of Israel, from the moment God uses Israel’s last judge, Prophet Samuel, to guide His people until the regrettable fall of Jerusalem caused by the armies of Babylon. The first season of this epic production, “The Deception,” shows the incredible contrast between a negligent judge and his rebellious children in leading a people and between a little God-fearing boy who takes his place.

First Season: The Deception

“The Deception” portrays Israel’s distance from God and the terrible example given by those who, one day, were chosen to lead the nation toward the Lord’s paths. It portrays Israel’s spiritual decline and the neglect of spiritual leaders.

The setting occurs on the outskirts of the cities of Israel, which are under the watch of the Philistine army. However, the main plot unfolds inside the Tabernacle in Shiloh, where we witness the decline of Eli’s family alongside the growth of young Samuel, who will become a future prophet and judge of Israel.

Second Season: The Ingratitude

“The Ingratitude” narrates the story of the making of the first Monarchy of Israel, with Saul’s ascension as the nation’s first king and the conclusion of Prophet Samuel as its last judge. The second season dives deep into the disobedience, ingratitude, and envy of the people of Israel, who began wanting to be like the other nations around it, denying God’s leadership for the leadership of a man.

The elders of Israel, when faced with the threat of their enemies, the Ammonites, unite the people in Ramah and demand Samuel to install a king in Israel. God directs Samuel to attend to the request of the people; however, the prophet must explain to them the unavoidable consequences of such an exchange.

Saul is anointed as Israel’s first king in Mizpah and is initially humble, honest, and fearful of God. The people celebrate and cheer him after he defeats the Ammonite leader Nahash. Unfortunately, with so much power and fame, in time, the Benjamite King Saul begins to show signs of future drastic changes in behavior and character that the third season of KINGS will detail well.

Third Season: The Rejection

“The Rejection” tells the story of the reign of Israel’s first king. Chosen by God and acclaimed by the people, Saul quickly becomes a source of hope for a safe and promising future for those under his leadership. No one expected, however, that the king, so humble at first, would begin to let himself be carried away by his privileged position, with unimaginable consequences for both his family and the people he swore to care for and protect.

The plot continues with the unbridled persecution of the Philistines, who seek at all costs to invade and conquer the territory of the Israelites. After fifty years of truce, Saul finds himself in the difficult and fearful position of facing them on the battlefield. But there is something wrong with the new king.

His hesitation to go to war goes beyond fear of the enemy’s superior numbers and strength. He fears the enemy he carries within himself and knows that God may not be on his side this time because of his actions.

Filled with many conflicts, mysteries, twists, turns, intrigues, and secrets, “The Rejection” showcases the ascent and downfall of the leader of Israel, unveiling the undeniable truth: one always reaps what one sows.

Fourth Season: The Selection

“The Selection” tells the teenager David, who later became Israel’s second and most acclaimed king of Israel. David was still young when selected by God to rule the nation in place of Saul. The latter had been the first king and a disappointment to the Lord of Hosts. Thus, the fourth season of KINGS takes the viewer to delve deeper into the narrative of Jesse’s youngest son.

The story of David shows that one’s ability to do great deeds is not determined by physical standards but by purity, obedience, fear of God, and the determination to overcome struggles. These qualities shape the character of a chosen individual, as in the case of David, known as a “man after God’s own heart” and a participant in the lineage of Jesus Christ.

In the captivating story of faith, love, and resilience, we will witness the continuation of the accounts in 1 Samuel and parts of Psalms. The story will prominently feature the contrast between Saul, who stubbornly clings to a kingdom no longer rightfully his, and the young David. Despite facing challenges, envy from his brothers, and widespread rejection, David embarks on remarkable experiences with God that shape his life forever.

The narrative unfolds in Bethlehem and its surroundings, including Gibeah, Philistia, and Gibeon. It introduces important characters from the Bible whose stories intertwine with David’s life. From encounters with angels, bears, and lions to facing Philistine giants, the tale of a small red-haired boy, overlooked since birth, is far from ordinary.

“The Selection” reveals the most intimate aspects of human nature and exemplifies the criteria defined by God in the selection of his earthly representatives. Despite our human tendency to make choices based on physical attributes, God reveals Himself by contradicting common sense and proving, once again, that He pays attention to what is in the heart rather than what our eyes can see.

Fifth Season: The Persecution

“The Persecution” continues the incredible trajectory of the God-fearing and courageous David, a man after the LORD’s own heart (1 Sm 13:14). Now, no longer an unknown boy in Israel, David, through his upright character and the countless victories that the LORD gave him, won the admiration and esteem of the entire Israelite people, and awakening in Saul, the current king of the nation, an uncontrollable envy.

Thus, the fifth season of KINGS follows the ups and downs of the complex relationship between these two notable historical people. His increasing persecution of David resulted in Saul’s moral degradation and brought his young successor much closer to God.

Consequently, it will be evident that it was neither David’s strength nor his own ability that freed him from the hands of his enemies, but rather the constant presence of the One he feared and sought, both in times of peace and in moments of profound pain and affliction.

The fascinating plot will take us to explore the writings of the books of 1 Samuel, parts of 2 Samuel, and the much-loved book of Psalms. We will experience the joys, pains, and difficulties faced by David and those who decided to follow him by recognizing divine authority in him. We will know David as a son, brother, friend, lover, warrior, and faithful servant, not only to Saul but, above all, to the LORD of Hosts and the nation handed over to him. However, we will also witness the conflicts and moments of weakness David faced, like any human being.

The narrative, which covers several locations in Israel and Philistia, including Gibeah, Ramah, Keilah, En-Gedi, Adullam, Ashdod, and Ziklag, will tell the story of remarkable and, ironically, very current characters, in addition to awakening great emotions and bring valuable lessons to the viewer.

“The Persecution” reveals how pride is capable of ruining human beings, transforming them into just a brief memory of what they once were when subjecting themselves to God. On the other hand, the hand of the LORD remains faithful over those who, with humility, obey, trust and fear Him, whether amid intense battles or arduous persecutions.

Sixth Season: The Conquest

“The Conquest” portrays the events of David’s life after the death of his greatest persecutor, Saul, as well as the inclination of the famous king. In this context, the viewer better understands why, later, Jesse’s son makes the mistake that changes the course of his story.

David faces opposition from Abner, commander of Israel, who appoints Saul’s inexperienced and insecure son, Ishbosheth, as king in Jabesh-Gilead, generating a great division in the nation. But, contrary to what many expected, the “house of David” grows exceedingly strong. On the other hand, the “house of Saul” weakens every day, making it even more evident how much the hand of God favored His chosen one.

The sixth season of KINGS shows the beginning of David’s reign in Hebron until the tragic conclusion of the story of the “house of Saul,” passing through the conquest of the fortified Jerusalem. This season highlights the courage, fear of the LORD, and justice of the esteemed king of Judah, both towards the people and God.

However, we see the beginning of the consequences that David has to face when he succumbs to his inclination to exceed his right as king by having several wives. As a result, he has severe problems not only in his personal life but also within his family.

“The Conquest” also delves deeper into the trajectory of notable characters, such as the brave Sama, David’s indomitable nephew Joab, the faithful and patient Uriah, and the beautiful but fickle Bathsheba. This sixth season guarantees strong emotions and leads the viewer to reflect on the themes and issues addressed throughout the plot.

Seventh Season: The Sin

“The Sin” begins immediately after Jerusalem’s conquest by David and his mighty men. This victory marked a crucial point in the history of the Hebrew people. The city of Jerusalem became the capital of Israel under David’s rule. His government prospered significantly and enjoyed political stability and military security never seen before.

In this exciting phase, full of conflicts and twists and turns, we follow the acclaimed king of Israel who, upon reaching the height of his reign, begins to relax his vigilance, giving in to his weaknesses and having to deal with the consequences.

We meet characters who will be decisive in the story, such as the king’s ambitious advisor, Ahithophel; the obstinate and fickle Bathsheba; the righteous and valiant Uriah; and David’s faithful friend and prophet, Nathan. Furthermore, Mephibosheth, the modest descendant of Saul, meets the one who was his father’s best friend after years of living on the streets.

The seventh season makes evident the contrast between a David dedicated to his family, a good friend, and a God-fearing servant and another David who lives in torment after giving in to his inclination and committing a sin that has a destructive impact on his life.

Eighth Season: The Consequence

“The Consequence” returns to the story of David years after the terrible and regrettable sin committed by the king of Israel. Now no longer a man tormented by guilt and the weight of his mistakes, David rules the nation with the same wisdom and vigor as before, having received God’s forgiveness and restored his communion with the Most High. But it is within his family that he has to face the most painful battles since, as a consequence of his actions, the Lord warned him that “the sword would never depart from his house.”

Within this context, we will follow David’s oldest sons’ moral decline and spiritual corruption. From Amnon’s unbridled desires for his half-sister, Tamar, to Absalom’s acts of rebellion and Adonijah’s machinations, we will experience the monarch’s suffering as he witnesses the disintegration of a large part of his family. However, during this painful period for King David and his family, we will understand why he is considered a “man after God’s own heart.” Unlike his predecessor, he does not cling to his position and, believing it to be Divine will, even gives up the throne of Israel when one of his sons, influenced by Ahithophel, takes it by force.

The fascinating narrative also takes us to meet young Solomon, chosen by God himself to be his father’s successor, a position the prince does not feel worthy or capable of assuming. Rejected by his brothers for being the result of David’s marriage to Bathsheba, Solomon becomes a reserved, insecure young man with few friends. He will find the escape he so desires in Naamah, a vivacious and audacious Ammonite, and both will live a fervent secret romance.

Thus, the eighth season portrays both the conclusion of the gripping story of King David and also the ascension of the inexperienced Solomon to the throne. Despite the many losses and betrayals experienced, we will see the Psalmist cling even more closely to God, who will continue to support and direct His chosen one until his last breath. Full of conflicts, intrigues, and twists, “The Consequence” is anything but an ordinary season, guaranteeing the viewer strong emotions and great teachings.

  • Thank you for continuing the series at a latter date. I enjoyed the series and I was also was waiting for series to end with the Babylonian exile.

  • Why is the King series ending early? The original ends with the Babylonian exile. Will we be able to eventually complete the entire series?

    • Dear Millie,

Thank you for reaching out. The current season will end tomorrow night. Then we will need to wait until the next seasons are dubbed.

We will air the Jesus TV Series in the meantime. It will begin on Thursday, March 13th.

  • I read the bible through once a year for years (18). I find your films very helpful in bringing the characters and cultures to life. I think this would have been very helpful if the Church had done this years ago and taken it out of the hands of Hollywood. I think it would also be very helpful to those who do not read much or find the bible hard to read. Thank you very much.
